Coaches

Like all sports clubs we rely predominantly on volunteers. We thank all the parents that have put their hand’s up to help out coaching this season. In some age groups we have too many coaches, and in others we don’t have enough. If you would like to help out by coaching a team on game night, or helping with skills sessions, please email rachel@phillipislandbasketball.org

Fixtures

Fixtures will soon be released for the first 3 rounds. Games will be played at both Newhaven College and Cowes Primary school. Please check your fixtures and if you cannot attend, you will need to let your coach know, so please get their details on round 1.

Team selection and grading phase

Our volunteer committee has worked hard to make teams as even as possible. Whilst many people have made requests, we sadly cannot meet them all. However it is a great opportunity for players to make new friends in our basketball community.

Over the first few rounds we may make some changes to ensure the teams are as competitive as possible and we thank everyone in advance for their understanding and cooperation in this.

Uniforms

Players will be loaned a singlet for the season. These will need to be returned at the end of the season. Lost/unreturned or damaged singlets will need to be paid for. Players can wear any shorts as long as they have NO POCKETS. Players with pockets on their shorts WILL NOT be able to take the court.

Club communications

Throughout the season communications will be made on Stack Team App as well as our social media channels.

Team Lists

Teams are will be listed on Stack Team App under “TEAM LISTS” in readiness for Round 1.

Welcome Round format

With many new families joining our competition this season, we have adjusted the format of our first night to allow more time for our coaches and players to meet each other and complete start of season tasks. For each time slot the following format will be in place:

- U10 and U12 Players and families will be part of a short welcome briefing upon arrival

- Teams will receive their loan singlet for the season and have some time to meet their team and coach and have an extended warm up to ensure everyone is ready to go.

- U10 and U12 will play a shorter first game of the season.

Parents, please ensure that you share contact details with your child/ren’s coach so you can stay in touch if you cannot attend a game.

We will have our committee and volunteers around to help you get set up on Stack Team App, help show you how to score so you are ready for your turn and also answer any questions.

What to bring:

- A labelled drink bottle. There is no canteen however we have refill spots throughout both stadium

- Players need to ensure they are wearing any sports shorts WITHOUT POCKETS

- Basketballs are provided for all team to warm up and players are NOT to bring their own ball into the stadium. You will be asked to return it to your car. If you cannot find it the warm up ball, please ask a referee or venue supervisor.

Skills sessions:

Don’t forget to take advantage of our Skills Sessions on most Wednesday nights at Newhaven College for U10-14 players. 5.15-6pm. The first session is this Wednesday 30th July.

Like any sport it is important for players to learn and practise their skills between games.

Coach contact details

Please make sure you get the contact details of your coach. It is your responsibility to ensure you let them know if you cannot attend the game so we can get appropriate fill ins.

Scoring duties

Please note – all families (except coaches) are required to take equal turns of scoring throughout the season. It is a small contribution that is required to ensure we can keep our sport going for the kids. If you do not know how to score, please ask and we will organise someone to show you.

There must be adult scorers on the score bench, and one scorer per team.
